Reminders and FSS Weekly

Happy Thursday All!!  We are having a great response from our deliveries of our breakfast burritos from Monday!  Another 100 deliveries tomorrow morning and some next Monday!  It's safe to say our Breakfast Burrito Fundraiser is a success!  If your spouse's squadron wants any delivered on Monday, have them contact Cheryl Chamberlain, at 208-585-7127 to preorder so we make sure we have enough!

Our next general meeting is Tuesday, June 5th at 6:30pm at the base chapel.  If you know any service member that is willing to volunteer for childcare, please reply back to this email.  We will have Mark coming to teach self defense, since he was unable to make this month's meeting.  Invite all the spouses you know to join in on this fun lively activity!

For those that live on base:  Due to decreased manning and increased work load associated with Housing Privatization, starting 11 May 12 the Housing Office will be closed to customers every Friday.  The housing maintenance contractor (SC Jones) will remain open  and residents can call them at 832-4643 for any housing maintenance issues.  Friday closures will continue until further notice.

Also, Privatization is scheduled to take effect August 1, 2012.  Before this takes effect, residents will be given the opportunity to attend an Information Forum which will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. May 21 at the Gunfighter Service Center. The Information Forum will be followed by three Lease Signing Forums from May 22 to 24 to sign a Tenant Lease Agreement to live in privatized housing or move off base.  Base housing residents will have the opportunity to sign their new leases on the day designated by the first letter in their last name as follows:  Tuesday, May 22 - Lease Signing, 2 to 6 p.m. (A-E); Wednesday, May 23 - Leasing Signing, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (F-O); Thursday, May 24 - Lease Signing, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (P-Z).  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the housing office at 828-2781. Additional information and facts regarding our housing privatization initiative can be found at http://newpreview.afnews.af.mil/mountainhome/library/basehousing/index.asp

Member Spotlight: Kristi Holwege

Meet Key Spouse & ESC Social Committee Chairperson Kristianne (Kristi) Holwege!!! Originally from Boise, ID, her husband is TSgt. John Holwege, AMXS and they have been married for 7 years, but have known each other for 9. They have two daughters, Alyson & Kyla.

Here's a bit about Kristi in her own words:

I am a busy stay at home mom who keeps busy with my daughter's Girl Scout activities and school activities, I am also a busy wife as well as full-time student working on finishing up my Master's degree in Human Resource Management this September. I love to garden, camp, hike, fish, cook, watch movies, eat out at restaurants, and spend time with family and friends.

Being an AF spouse means supporting the AF and my husbands career choice. It also means a way of life for us that we chose together as a team and keeping a positive attitude about it despite the scarifies we have to make together. It means appreciating what he does to support his family and his country and he appreciating my role in what I do to support him. It also means being able to be strong and independent and carry on with our life when he's gone, but also keeping my marriage and family strong.

I have met so many wonderful friends through the ESC who have become my military family and my biggest support group when I have needed help. Being the Social Committee chairperson has also been beneficial as I know my job is helping military spouses enjoy their time here and putting on family events to allow families to get out and have fun together.

Advice Kristi has for any new or new to base AF spouse - Be flexible and have a sense of humor. There are going to be some good times and some bad times, but if you be flexible and accept that change is a large part of the military you'll adapt easier. Having a sense of humor is a great defense mechanism as well as coping mechanism to get you through the tough times. GET OUT and enjoy the area you're stationed at, it's going to be your home for a while whether you like it or not and complaining about it is not going to do any good. Join the ESC and find ways to get involved with the base, it's a great way to make friends, especially with moving to a new base and not knowing anyone.
