January Elections, "Game Night" Gift Basket & FSS Weekly

Elections are coming up at our next meeting, Tuesday, January 8th at 6:30pm at Liberty Chapel on base.  You must have your dues paid/up-to-date by December 31st in order to run for office, or have your dues/up-to-date that evening in order to vote.  We will also go over the charitable things we did in the month of December, as well as report on our fundraising efforts with our gift wrapping booth.

We cannot thank all the volunteers enough for the gift of their time this holiday season.  We will be taking the names of those that helped us and raffling off a "Game Night" gift basket as well.  It's our way of recognizing your willingness to help raise funds for our scholarships and being away from family.

If you are interested in running for President, Vice President, Treasurer or Secretary, and would like a description of the duties of that volunteer officer position, please contact us.

Hope you all had a safe and wonderful holiday with friends and family and we'll see you in the new year 2013!!

Meeting, AFAD, Vet Olympics, Retreat, Military Wall & More!

Good morning spouses!  Hope you're all having a great week!  Just a reminder about upcoming events:

Tuesday, Sept 4th at 6:30pm is our General Meeting at the Base Chapel.  Bring a friend and be entered in our Cheers Jar!  Remember that if you already attended a meeting and are not a dues paying member, dues will be owed at this meeting.  6 months for $18 or a year for $32.  Meetings are for active dues paying members only, although your first meeting is free so you can come check things out :)  Barb Hurt from Protocol will be joining us and going over proper dress, etiquette, tradition and manners at various AF events, so it will be a great learning experience for all!

Saturday, Sept 8th is Air Force Appreciation Day in Mountain Home.  If you are new to base, then you are in for a treat when it comes to the biggest parade in Idaho!  If you wish to help with our ESC Float, or volunteer for a few hours at our ESC Booth in Carl Miller Park, please reply to this email and I will forward your info to the POCs.  WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!

Special note that the Veteran's Olympics.  My family and I have participated the last 2 years and it's just an amazing time and experience for all. Here is the emailed info:

On Saturday, 15 Sept 2012, volunteers from Mountain Home AFB will participate in the 25th Annual Idaho Veterans Olympics at the Boise Veterans Home.  The event begins @ 1000 with a parade of Veterans followed by opening ceremonies, the games, and culminates @ 1200 with a free BBQ luncheon and the presentation of awards. This is a special year with the 25th (Silver) Anniversary as well as the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War. This year's T-shirts for the event have both logos!

Each Veteran will be paired with a volunteer from the base for the duration of the day's festivities. We need volunteers to help supervise the games, escort the Veterans to the different events and share lunch with them. I know we will be in an ORE working extended shifts the week of the event, but I can't stress enough how important this is to the Veteran's and how we could not do this successfully with all the volunteers that Mountain Home AFB provides! It is only half a Saturday but means so much!

If interested in volunteering for this worthwhile event, please contact your First Sergeant or e-mail MSgt Nicholle Fouke @ nicholle.fouke@mountainhome.af.mil to have your name added to the volunteer list.

***A mass volunteer meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 5 September at 1500 in Building 2215, the Operations Support Squadron Auditorium****

The Base Chapel is hosting two MarriageCare Retreats beginning 7-9 September and 5-7 October at the Ashley Inn, Cascade ID.  Both retreats are fully funded from a grant from the Air Force Chaplain Corps.  Unlike previous retreats held by the chapel, this retreat does not allow children to attend.  It is for married couples only.  Participants would be responsible for any costs associated with traveling to and from Cascade as well as any child care or pet care costs.  Carpooling is recommended.  The grant covers lodging, meals as well as relationship resources couples will receive.

A detailed listing of activities in the Cascade area will be provided to each couple in an information packet.  The information packet will be available from 4-6 Sep at the Base Chapel.  Please direct any questions directly to  CHARLES R. MONTOYA, JR. Ch, Major, USAF Deputy Wing Chaplain (208) 828-6417

The Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce are now selling bricks for their Military Brick Wall going up in Carl Miller Park this Fall.  $75 for a 4"X8" and $150 for a 8" X 8". Bricks can be purchased in honor of a current or past military member. They are asking for all orders and payments to be submitted by October 1st.

Click the link to print out the order form. http://mountainhomechamber.com/Custom%20Page%204/Files/value3662.pdf

If you know of base or town events that you would like added to our Facebook wall, please feel free to email them to us.  Hope to see a lot of you at the Air Force Ball as well!  If you need info, please contact us!  Also, if you would like to participate in our member spotlight, let me know!  Thanks and have a great week!!  See you Tuesday!
