Updates, Bowling Social, ORE/CRE Meeting, FSS Weekly

Good morning spouses!!  Thank you to all who were able to come out Tuesday evening and spend some time with us.  Some great outcomes of the evening were Melissa Barker who won the Membership Quarterly Basket and Stephanie Gray who received the Peer-to-Peer gift!!  Congrats ladies!  We also had a discussion and vote in which we will be giving a $100 Walmart gift card to help the SFS spouse who recently lost her son.  We ended the evening with some fun decorating tips from our VP Taylor Martin.  She's is so very talented, and we thank her for sharing her expertise with us!  What a great night!  Hopefully we'll have pictures up on our Facebook page soon!

On Sunday, April 14th at 2pm, we will be holding a Bowling Family Social at the Bowling Center on base.  $1 game/$1 shoes.  ALL ARE WELCOME!!!  Come out and have some fun with our enlisted families and put some faces to the names from Facebook and through word of mouth.  Getting together and socialzing is the best way to make sure we all have a support system while stationed here at MHAFB.  Can't wait to see everyone!!

On Monday, 8 April at 1000, Col Short will host a Town Hall meeting in the Base Theater. This meeting will address the upcoming Operational Readiness Exercise (9-11 April) and Certified Readiness Exercise (30 Apr - 6 May.)   The target audience is key spouses and non-players (military and civilian) that do not normally attend the mandatory Road to War briefings for exercise players.
Topics will include:
- Why do we have readiness exercises?
- Players versus Non-Player roles and responsibilities

And more...
A short "Question and Answer" session will follow for those interested. Commanders, please encourage your key spouses and non-players to attend this informational meeting.  If you have any questions, please contact 366FW/XP 828-2000.  V/R  366th Fighter Wing Public Affairs

Auction, Fundraiser Details, Easter Fun, Bowling Social & FSS Weekly

Good morning Spouses!  We all survived the craziness of the exercise again!  Just think... one more practice in April, inspection in May, and then hopefully we can get a month of peace!  Ahhh, the perks of military life! :)

First off, I want to thank everyone who came out to the ESC's general meeting and social this past Tuesday.  Congratulations to Autumn Stratton for receiving the Peer-to-Peer gift, and we welcomed some new members as well!  I'm sure I can speak for all of us when I say that the social was a blast!  Lots of fun and laughter with Steve Wright from the Airman & Family Readiness Center as we went over the results of our personality/behavior results.  It was a great way to get to know each other, learn about ourselves and the way we communicate with each other.  If you didn't get the chance to make it, or took the survey and could not attend, contact Tina or Steve at the A&FRC 828-2458.  We highly encourage you, or you AND your spouse to take this and check out the results with them.  It can help in your currently relationship and your relationship with others for more effective communication and understanding.  I delivered a thank you card to them Wednesday for allowing us to be a part of the "PDP" experience!

Tonight is the OSC's Scholarship Auction at the Gunfighter Club.  We are excited to see so many of you purchase tickets in support of this amazing event.  Thank you to all of you who donated and we are in for a real treat this year with some amazing artwork donated by local artists along with all the silent and live auction items.  It's sure to be a fantastic event, and I hear tickets may have sold out, which would be awesome!  See you there tonight!  Fingers crossed that they exceed last year's total!!

Now to business!!  Our Butter Braid Pastry fundraiser has been APPROVED!  If you haven't gotten an order form and would like to get involved, member or not, contact me, Cheryl Chamberlain at 208-585-7127 to get one.  Here are some important guidelines and things to remember:
  • The fundraiser runs March 16th-22nd
  • Orders and money are due to me by Sunday, March 24th
  • Delivery is Monday, April 1st at 10am to my home, so we will need volunteers to help sort and deliver
  • If soliciting to friends on social media/Facebook, please make sure you list the dates of the fundraiser to comply with base guildelines
  • DO NOT TAKE ORDER FORMS INTO SQUADRONS OR USE "@AF.MIL" EMAIL ADDRESS TO SOLICIT!  If you wish to have your leadership spouses send emails or add it to a newsletter, that is fine.  If your AD spouse wants to mention it to their co-workers, and get you orders, that's fine, but no money collection can be done in the buildings.
We are asking members to sell at least 10 pastries to meet our goal of $1000.  They are $12 a pc and flavors include Bavarian Creme w/ Choc Icing, Raspberry, Blueberry Cream Cheese, Cream Cheese, Apple & Cinnamon.  Most people that have had these will reorder from you, and normally get 2-4 pastries, so we are confident we can reach our fundraising goal!  Again, contact me for forms, and any questions you may have.

EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA! Saturday, 23 March from 1-3 p.m. The Enlisted Spouses Club will be supporting this individual and family event at the Youth Center!!! Games, Arts & Crafts and an Easter Egg Hunt! Adult supervision of children required. $2 per person or $5 per family.  Come on out and enjoy some time socializing and getting to know some of your families.  With deployments, TDYs, etc, these events are an awesome way to make great friends and contacts!!  Please direct further questions to the Youth Center 828-2501.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, April 2nd 6:30pm at Liberty (base) Chapel.  We are also planning a Bowling Social on Sunday, April 14th.  $1/game, $1 shoes.  More details to come, so check future emails.

Thank you for being a part of the ESC and supporting our mission.  The FSS Weekly is below.  A lot of great things going on, so get out there and get involved!!  Have a great weekend!

MUST READ!! Important Info About March's Social!

Spouses, please take a moment to read what will be happening at March 5th's ESC GM/Social:

For our social at next month's meeting (Tuesday, March 5th 6:30pm - Liberty Chapel) we are going to be doing a PDP survey given through the A&FRC.  This requires anyone that is or plans on attending this meeting to email Steve Wright from the A&FRC and let him know you need a link to take this survey. Everyone gets an individual link, so you cannot use someone else's.  Just email steven.wright@mountainhome.af.mil and tell him you want are participating in the ESC PDP social survey.  He will reply with a link and you will take the survey.  The survey only takes 2-5 minutes at most.  At the meeting, they will present you with a personal report.

*** IF YOU DO NOT REQUEST, GET YOUR LINK, AND TAKE IT BEFORE NOON ON TUESDAY, MARCH 5TH, YOU MAY NOT GET A REPORT! ***

Steve will be bringing everyone's reports and go over the meanings and outcomes.  This will be very informative, as well as fun, especially if you know Steve!  Come check it out, as this is a great way for us to get to know each other better and have a great way of doing it!!  It helps us know more about ourselves, as well, and how to communicate more effectively with others!  What a great way to be social and network with other spouses!!! Child care is available :)

Even if you are not attending the meeting, you can still request a link, and set up a meeting with Tina or Steve to go over your results.  If you do not attend the meeting, and take the survey, they ONLY way to get your report is to come to the ESC GM/Social or set up a separate appointment with them to personally go through it.  It's part of the funding process for this program.  For any additional questions, contact either at the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 828-2458.

Below is the description of the PDP test!  See you next Tuesday, March 5th!  Don't forget to email Tina or Steve for your personal survey link!!!

PROFESSIONAL DYNAMETRICS PROGRAM (PDP)
TALKING PAPER

PDP is a behavioral strengths survey that identifies a person's natural strengths, stressors and how they feel others see them. PDP is now in 22 countries, translated into 12 languages, and also being used by AMC.  There are four strengths identified in the survey: Dominance, Extroversion, Patience, and Conformity.  The survey also identifies if you make decisions based on fact or feeling along with how much energy you have to utilize during the day. The survey is comprised of 60 words that take approximately 3-6 minutes to answer.  The answers are then compiled against a database comprised of over 6 million working adults that have taken this survey.  A 22 page report is then generated for review.  Our job as PDP representatives is to provide a thorough analysis back to the individual.

Another option available is for Commanders/leadership to request a team analysis at whatever level they choose (i.e., shop, flight, etc.).  The team analysis will provide how each individual communicates, leads and perceives other leadership/communication styles.  Our first squadron team training was for the Comptrollers.  The team training has given them better insight on how to effectively communicate within their work center; thus, improving working relationships across the board.  We also provided the Comptrollers commander with a detailed report of identified stressors for both work and personal life; based on anonymous individual feedback obtained during the team training session.  We encourage leadership to take full advantage of all the classes and services available to them through the Airman & Family Readiness Center to strengthen their work centers and to mitigate identified stressors (i.e., Resilience Training, Conflict Resolution, Time/Stress Management, Study Habits, financial and relationship workshops, etc.).

One of our personal favorites of this survey has been meeting with individuals and getting them to identify what is actually stressing them out and figuring out a way to mitigate the stress, if possible.  We have also used PDP to enhance intimate relationships and are seeing positive feedback from it; at this time, there are no hard statistics just verbal testimonials from couples. One testimonial worth sharing is how the PDP survey assisted us in identifying an individual who was suffering from what appeared to be a serious state of depression.  Based on these results we were able to connect with the individual who informed us that he indeed did have depression and is currently in treatment with Mental Health services.  Our overall goal is to help identify major stressors and refer individuals for appropriate care and services.

Awards, Social, Auction & FSS Weekly

Good morning spouses!!  First off, the Gunfighter Wing Annual Awards banquet was last night, and we wish to congratulate all the nominees and winners from last night.  For our base spouses, Carolyn Estes from the OSC won for her volunteer efforts in 2012.  Other nominees in the spouse category were Cheryl Chamberlain and Heather Estridge, who won at their squadron and group levels.  Also, if you had not heard, Sunshine Burgess was voted in as Military Spouse of the Year for Mountain Home AFB through MilSpouse.com.  Congratulations to all these ladies who have been recognized for their time and dedication to the families and communities surrounding MHAFB.

We had a wonderful Mardi Gras social with tons of food!!!  Our President, Sunshine Burgess, addressed our spouses about behavior at mixed socials and events, and we spoke of our upcoming Butter Braid Fundraiser this March.  If you have any ideas for future events or socials or even fundraisers, please email us back and let us know.  This is YOUR CLUB, so we would love your input!

We also welcomed in 4 new members into the ESC family, as well as presenting Emily Smith with a Certificate of Appreciation as her and her family leave MHAFB here in the next 2 weeks.  Best of luck on your new adventure!!

We had Shelley McGlamory and Amy Zuhlke from the OSC (Officer Spouses' Club) came as our guests to share with us about the OSC's Annual Scholarship Auction, which also has a Mardi Gras theme.  This is an amazing and fun event for everyone, and makes for a great "date night" as well!  Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Thrift Store on base Thursdays 10a-2p.

The month of February has a lot going on, so be sure to check out all the fun things to do!!  We have a great social coming up at our March meeting on the 5th, so be sure to check your upcoming emails for details!!!
